Modelling to a level you can rely on

Level of Development is about reliability, not appearance. A model can look detailed and still be unusable if the geometry was placed approximately. We agree the level per system and per stage at the start, so everyone downstream knows how far the model can be trusted.

In practice that usually means LOD 300 where dimensions need to be taken directly from the model, and LOD 350 where genuine multidisciplinary coordination is happening, since coordinating without supports, connections and penetrations finds the obvious clashes and misses the expensive ones.

On clash reports

A run against uncoordinated models produces thousands of results, most of them noise, and a list that size gets ignored. The value is in the filtering: grouping related clashes into single issues, discarding false positives, ranking by consequence and assigning each to whoever can resolve it. Regular coordination cycles during design catch problems while they are still cheap to change.
