Drafting to CAD

The result of a conversion depends heavily on the source. A vector PDF exported from CAD retains geometry and text as objects and converts cleanly. A scanned paper drawing is an image, so every line is traced and corrected. We will tell you which you have and what that means for the outcome before quoting.

Geometry, text and overall arrangement come across. What has to be rebuilt is the part that makes a drawing genuinely usable: layer structure to your standards, line weights and styles, blocks for doors, windows and repeated fixtures, and text styles. A flat traced drawing is present but not editable in any practical sense, which is why we rebuild rather than simply vectorise.

A note on accuracy

A converted drawing carries the errors of the original, plus those of printing, paper distortion and scanning. It is a starting point, not a measurement. On renovation work we recommend converting for arrangement and intent, then verifying critical dimensions on site before designing against them. Where written dimensions conflict with the geometry, we flag it rather than quietly picking one.
